Once when I was at school, I redacted my homework before handing it in. The teachers didn't see the funny side. (How could they? I'd blacked that part out too.)
A few days ago, I wrote to a radio producer and accidentally said, "Sorry for the radio silence" (meaning 'sorry for going AWOL'!) Luckily, I realised before sending the email, but I do wonder if she'd have thought I was trying to be funny.
